Preview: Microsoft Windows 8

Windows 8 is the next version of Microsoft Windows, a family of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs, servers, and media center PCs. It adds support for ARM microprocessors in addition to the traditional x86 microprocessors from Intel and AMD. Its user interface has been changed to make it better suited for touchscreen input in addition to the traditional mouse, keyboard and pen input.
Microsoft has not yet announced a ship date for Windows 8, although some major media outlets speculate it might be available in late 2012.

Preview: Need for Speed the Run

The E3 demo, Death From Above, dropped you right in the middle of the action on the streets and rooftops of Chicago, but that’s like reading only a few pages in the middle of a novel. So, here’s a bit of the set-up. Everything begins when Jack gets himself into some very serious trouble, and the only way to solve his problem is to enter and win an illicit, 200-driver race from San Francisco to New York.

In Chicago, where the demo takes place, you (as Jack) are only 800 miles from NYC. Jack is aware that the mob is involved, but in the streets of Chicago, he realizes just how invested they are in keeping him from finishing the race. You’ll also notice that since you’re in the later stages of an illicit race, a lot of law enforcement is trying to bring your Run to an end.

In designing the game, we explored the possibility of free-roam, but decided that in The Run, the ultimate goal is to get from San Francisco to New York City as fast as possible, which means you keep going at all times, rather than exploring the city or stopping for lunch. That’s why the out-of-car scenes, while revealing the story, are all about keeping you immersed in the action, getting you to your next car, and getting you back to top speed as quickly as possible.

Preview: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that it pioneered when it was launched 12 years ago.

CS: GO features new maps, characters, and weapons and delivers updated versions of the classic CS content (de_dust, etc.). In addition, CS: GO will introduce new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

„Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999,” said Doug Lombardi at Valve. „For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac.”

CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. The title is targeted for release in early 2012 and will be playable at this year’s PAX Prime and Eurogamer Expo.

New Release : Darksiders 2

Based on remarks made at this year’s International Game Developers Association (IGDA) Leadership Forum, THQ executive vice president Danny Bilson revealed that the sequel to Darksiders will be a story that actually runs concurrent to the events in the first game. This is surprising development considering (SPOILER AHEAD) the ending of Darksiders seemed to set up a sequel in which the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse would be reunited in the war against Heaven and Hell (END SPOILER). Whether it’s a follow-up featuring a more badass War, or a concurrent story, we’re certainly intrigued by what’s next in this franchise.

A new Star Wars: The Old Republic is released in this winter by the publisher Electronic Arts. The game is developed by BioWare Austin / BioWare.
Set 300 years after the events in Knights of the Old Republic (and featuring some familiar faces), Star Wars: The Old Republic will put players on either side of a massive war between the Republic and the Empire.

In Star Wars: The Old Republic, players will explore an age thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader when war between the Old Republic and the Sith Empire divides the galaxy. Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles, defining their personal story and determining their path down the light or dark side of the Force.

Along the way, players will befriend courageous companions who will fight at their side or possibly betray them, based on the players’ actions. Players can also choose to team up with friends to battle enemies and overcome incredible challenges
